Biography

Çağla Turhan was born in Istanbul in 2002 and began her musical training at the age of 13 at the Bilkent Music High School under Cem Güngör, studying the trombone; she later continued her studies at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin.

As an orchestral musician, she has performed in numerous youth orchestras, including the Bilkent Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Ankara Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Doğuş Children’s Symphony Orchestra, and the Turkish Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (TUGFO). In addition, she has performed with professional orchestras such as the “Presidential Symphony Orchestra,” the “Akademik Başkent Orchestra,” the “Berlin Opera Group,” the “Baltic Sea Philharmonic,” the “Neue Philharmonie,” and the “Klein Leppiner Festival Orchestra.”

In 2024, she was accepted into the Summer Academy of the Bergen National Opera and also the orchestra academy of the “Staatskapelle Halle.” In 2018, she had the privilege of performing Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Trombone Concerto with the Bilkent Youth Symphony Orchestra, and in 2026, Georg Christoph Wagenseil’s Alto Trombone Concerto with the Izmir State Symphony Orchestra. In 2025, she won a prize in the scholarship competition organized by the “Yamaha Music Europe Foundation” in Germany. Since 2024, she has served as a jury member for the regional and state competitions of “Jugend Musiziert” in Berlin. From 2024 to 2026, she taught trombone and piano at the “Westerland” Music School in Berlin. She has participated in master classes led by numerous trombonists, including Christian Lindberg, Henning Wiegräbe, Jamie Williams, Jacques Mauger, Mayumi Shimizu, Chris Houlding, Domenico Catalano, Marlena Skoczylas, Maciej Łakomy, Helge von Niswandt, Armin Bachmann, Christian Sprenger, and Kriss Garfitt, as well as at the trombone festivals “Lätzsch,” “Tromboholizm,” and “IPV.”

She is currently pursuing her master’s degree at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin under Professor Louise Pollock. In addition, she teaches at the Havelland Music School in Falkensee and is a member of the “Staatskapelle Halle” Academy.
